Ashok Goel would like to call himself as someone who is born and brought up in the complex world of advertising and marketing. Complex, because of the dynamic nature of ever-changing business environment, fast adoption of newer technologies resulting in lifestyle changes. It has made his 30 plus years’ experience in advertising very rich and allowed him to use the craft into launching many brands at the ground level.
During his initial years in advertising, he was closely associated with the launch of the brand Bausch & Lomb soft contact lenses – thus sowing the seeds of starting of an organized eye care industry – which was non- existent prior to 1992.
During the years that followed, he was associated with many brand building assignments like Eicher Motors, SAS Airlines, Bajaj Autos, Park Avenue, Nestle Maggi Noodles relaunch etc.
And then came the opportunity in 1998 to present luxury watch brands like Omega, Rado, Longines,
Tissot and Swatch in India – again a period when luxury retailing was not organized and the then policies were not conducive for a good business environment. Also, when watches were seen merely as a time keeping device.
Having lived through the formative period of the watch industry, in retail especially, Goel has seen the customer mindset changing towards brand acquisitions and becoming a catalyst for change in the topography of watch retailing.
